Dodgers @ D’Backs Sept. 17, 2013: That Almost Looks Like a Lineup

chasefieldWell, now we’re talking, aren’t we? No more Chili Buss, no more Skip Schumaker or Jerry Hairston or Nick Punto; for once, we get something that actually resembles a major league lineup.

Hanley Ramirez is back in the lineup for the first time since last Thursday, and Matt Kemp starts for the first time since July 21. Since Yasiel Puig didn’t start in that lone July game in Washington, tonight marks the first time since July 5 — well over two months ago — that the trio all start at the same time. (“Um, thanks a lot guys,” said Hyun-jin Ryu, probably, after comparing his team last night to the one that Zack Greinke gets tonight.)

No Andre Ethier just yet, as he’s still in a walking boot, but at least we’re making some progress as far as health goes, especially since Scott Van Slyke‘s ribs are apparently feeling well enough to get him back in the lineup. (No word yet on Carl Crawford‘s back, but he was unlikely to play anyway; Patrick Corbin is just death on lefties.)

In non-Kemp news, as though anyone’s interested in that, the Dodgers announced the other four players joining Corey Seager and friends in the Arizona Fall League — pitchers Shawn Tolleson, Yimi Garcia, Michael Thomas, and Onelki Garcia will play for Glendale.

Unfortunately, we can just stop thinking about Alexander Guerrero entirely for now, reports MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez. In a situation far too reminiscent of the Luke Hochevar mess, we’ve learned that the reported verbal deal the infielder had with the Dodgers was with his former agents, and now that he’s switched to the Boras Corp., he wants a “better overall deal”. That doesn’t shut the door on him as a Dodger, but it certainly doesn’t help.

But enough of Guerrero. He’s not here, and he might never be. Kemp is. Ramirez is. Greinke is. Puig is. Adrian Gonzalez is. That’s fun right there, and it’s the right time to get things moving for a team that could really use a convincing win.
