We talk a lot about Clayton Kershaw around here, and with good reason. But Zack Greinke has been getting his fair share of press as well, and it’s not hard to see why: over his last nine starts, he’s allowed ten earned runs, with a 51/13 K/BB mark. He’s been absolutely dominant, and tonight he faces a downtrodden Cubs team that was lucky enough to have missed him when the Dodgers went through Chicago earlier this month.

Greinke faces a Cubs lineup that looks… well, a whole lot like you’d expect the lineup of a 55-75 team to look like in late August.

They’ve got the requisite journeyman in left field and hitting fifth in Brian Bogusevic, who was outrighted off the Houston roster last winter, which should tell you something about a guy who couldn’t make the Astros. They’ve got the other requisite journeyman in Donnie Murphy, who has only 719 career plate appearances despite having been kicking around the bigs since 2004, yet somehow has eight homers in 79 plate appearances this year alone.

They’ve got two of the four worst hitters in baseball up the middle in Starlin Castro & Darwin Barney; they’ve got Junior Lake, who seemed to be an adventure in left field when we saw this team a few weeks ago, in center.

The Cubs have a really bright future when you look at a farm system that has guys like Javier Baez, Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, & Kris Bryant, but it’s still a few years away. For right now, what they have is a rebuilding team with a ton of holes. Expect them to score ten runs tonight.
