I don’t usually — by which I mean, ever — make posts about low-level minor leaguers getting promoted or demoted, but the Dodgers don’t usually have prospects like Corey Seager, either.

Tonight, we learn via Hugh Bernreuter of Mlive.com that the 2012 first-round pick is leaving the low-A Great Lakes Loons to join the high-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Seager, 19, is hitting .309/.389/.529 for the Loons while collecting all sorts of accolades from prospect pundits, though even that excellent line doesn’t tell the full story. He missed nearly all of May with a hamstring pull, and since returning he’s put up a .335/.423/.605 line in 45 games. So, yeah, the bat is for real, and he’s managed to stick at shortstop longer than anyone expected.

As we know, Rancho plays in a high offense environment, so it’ll be fun to see him perform there. That said, the Quakes season ends one month from tonight, so barring a big surprise, expect to see him starting next year there as well. If all goes well, that puts him in Double-A at some point in 2014… and maybe it’s not out of the question to see him in the bigs in late 2015.

That’s all getting ahead of ourselves, of course. For now, one of the brightest stars in the Dodger system — I would place him ahead of Zach Lee & Joc Pederson, though there’s understandably disagreement there — is moving on up.
