Must-Read Story: Yasiel Puig’s Coast Guard Journey

puig_2013-06-27_faceAs we wait for Carlos Marmol to get traded to the Dodgers — a move I believe will happen today — or Ricky Nolasco, or Chase Utley, or Matt Garza, or any of the eleven million rumors currently floating around, I’d highly recommend Jeff Passan’s story about Yasiel Puig‘s defection attempts to America and his bonding with the crew of a Coast Guard ship.

A sample:

Torres then searched for Puig and Cienfuegos, and up popped a picture of him in the green uniform. The face and body matched. Puig wasn’t just some kid with delusions of baseball grandeur. Long before he enamored Los Angeles, he was making fans in the open water. Torres printed the picture and brought it to the deck where the migrants were situated. He showed it to Puig and the older gentlemen.

“Their faces lit up,” Torres said.

Fully worth your time to read the entire thing.
