Dodgers @ Padres June 21, 2013: Go Clayton Go

petco_park_opener2013Ladies and gentlemen, the starting outfield for your 2013 Los Angeles Dodgers! In left field, no that’s not Carl Crawford, it’s, uh… Elian Herrera. In center, no, not Matt Kemp, it’s… oh, Skip Schumaker. And in right field, well, Yasiel Puig appears to be everything we’d hoped he be and more, but still, no Andre Ethier to be found anywhere in the lineup.

With Ethier sitting against lefty Clayton Richard and Scott Van Slyke — who is starting his rehab assignment for Albuquerque tonight, reports Ken Gurnick at dodgers.com — joining Crawford & Kemp on the disabled list, that’s where we find ourselves these days. Isn’t baseball fun?

Richard & Clayton Kershaw, opposing one another, are two of the five players in baseball history to go by the name “Clayton,” joining Clayton Andrews, Clayton Lambert, & Clayton Mortensen. Many others have had that as a birth name but gone by “Clay”, and there’s your useless fact of the day.
