Dodgers @ Orioles, April 20, 2013: Game Two (Beckett vs Chen)

camdenyardsComing off a tough loss in the first game today, what can Don Mattingly do to shake up the lineup for game two?

Mark Ellis, Ramon Hernandez, and Justin Sellers all take a seat in the regularly-scheduled 7pm ET game, with Andre Ethier serving as the designated hitter. That lets A.J. Ellis, Jerry Hairston, Nick Punto, and Juan Uribe back into the lineup, and I can’t really see any complaint with those decisions. This is the roster the manager has been given, and there’s a lot of softness at the bottom of it. A healthy return from Hanley Ramirez and a return to form from Matt Kemp is all that’s going to turn this around. At least we’re not hearing any complaints about Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford these days, since former Dodger prospect Allen Webster is scheduled to make his long-awaited debut for the Red Sox tomorrow.

On the pitching side, the Dodgers badly need a good outing from Josh Beckett, coming off the best start of his Dodger career. I think it’s safe to assume we won’t be seeing Ronald Belisario in the nightcap.
