Diamondbacks @ Dodgers September 1, 2012: Skaggs vs Beckett

As many of you know, I’m getting married on September 15, two weeks from today. But now that I’m reading details of the Baseball Prospectus event being held at Dodger Stadium that day, I’m suddenly no longer certain that going to the wedding is the best use of my time.

Check this out:

Vin, Logan White, and Dan Evans? I can think of worse ways to spend a Saturday.

As for this Saturday, in which Josh Beckett makes his Dodger Stadium debut in the home whites and his first appearance there at all since 2005: as expected, the Dodgers called up catcher Tim Federowicz and pitchers John ElyJavy Guerra now that rosters have expanded. I’m pleasantly surprised to see Ely, who was the PCL Pitcher of the Year but who had seemingly been passed by Stephen Fife on the depth chart. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, Alfredo Silverio (who is out for the year after a car accident last spring) was finally moved to the 60-day disabled list, where he will gain major league service time. We’ll see a few more guys trickle in over the next week or two once the Albuquerque season ends, and still no news yet on the status of Kenley Jansen, Chad Billingsley, or Scott Elbert.
